The Cutpurse dress coat takes it’s name from the infamous MollCutpurse, MaryFrith, who plied the trade her moniker suggests and was a also a notorious Pimp and Fence. Once, in 1611, a showman named William Banks bet Mary twenty pounds that she wouldn’t ride from Charing Cross to Shoreditch dressed as a man. Not only did she win the bet, she rode flaunting a banner and blowing a trumpet as well.
A Riding coat style split in the front and cinched where it closes with an old English brass buckle. Made in a pure wool coating in fine repeat check with a contrast sheepskin collar and cuffs. A fitted, stylish and brazen dress coat.
