The Cutpurse dress coat takes it’s name from the infamous Moll Cutpurse, Mary Frith, who plied the trade her moniker suggests and was a also a notorious Pimp and Fence. Once, in 1611, a showman named William Banks bet Mary twenty pounds that she wouldn’t ride from Charing Cross to Shoreditch dressed as a man. Not only did she win the bet, she rode flaunting a banner and blowing a trumpet as well.

A Riding coat style split in the front and cinched where it closes with an old English brass buckle. Made in a pure wool coating in fine repeat check with a contrast sheepskin collar and cuffs. A fitted, stylish and brazen dress coat.

As with all our fabrics, we source the finest qualities of stock ends from mills or wastage from the fashion industry, including the fine Toscana quality sheepskin, used in this garment.
