VANITAS DRESS

Regular price £565.00 Sale

Vanitas paintings are symbolic of the transience of life. Mainly created in the Netherlands in the 16th & 17th Centuries. The objects depicted in these still life's are curated to induce contemplation upon the certainty of death and the vanity, futility and transience of earthly life. Our dress with its peek a boo macabre placards suggests the ephemeral and earthly nature of being alive.

This fitted yet fluid dress features open gussets across the chest, centre back and the sleeves featuring the anatomy and bone structures of the human body printed on silk inserts. The back of the skirt is jauntily swagged, asymmetrically, giving it a generous volume. A sweetheart neckline, brass domed button front fastening with a versatile waist tie and two draped front pockets together with a raw edged gathered frill hemline make this a dress to die for.

Offered here in a viscose crepe with 100% silk inserts.

Dry clean only.
